Hope everybody had a good Easter last weekend!

This Easter has worked out well, with four days at work, four days off, three days on & then another three days off! No complaints here!

The Friday holiday is for ANZAC Day to commemorate Australians killed in war and to honour returned servicemen and women.

ANZAC refers to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who landed at Gallipoli in Turkey on the morning of 25 April 1915 during the First World War.

A fine job they did too! Lest We Forget.

"Hang on, something just isn't right. There seems to be more space. Maybe it's... oh, I know, the frames have disappeared!"

Yep, the handy frame that has graced this site for the last couple of years is no longer. Mind you, I have been planning its demise for months.

The change comes in response to the number of people who still have the monitor resolution set to 800x600, which would really spoil the effect of the frame. So, I've crumbled under the pressure & now everyone has to use the scroll bars on the far side of the web browser. Sorry to those that liked the frame, but it's too late now!

Please don't go looking at the archives, because I think I've completely buggered their format for the time being. Simply a case of Blogger not playing fair to let me access the template.

The other major change which you can't see, (unless you are too smart for your own good!) is the email link has changed. No new email address but a bit of behind the scenes encrypting to stop the masses of email predators from leaching my address off the page & sending me spam. This is probably a feeble attempt to stop thirty odd crap emails a day, but at this point anything is worth a try!

Please let me know if anything is stuffed after making the changes & if you think anything could be made better, such as the grammer in this sentence!

I'm a huge fan of Mark Knopfler.

Have been for a good decade or so & most likely will be for a long time to come.

However, I tend to get hooked on a performer or band every so often & I'll end up listening to mostly that performer for a few weeks until they wear off & then I'll get hooked on something else. A few months ago it was U2 & until recently it was Pearl Jam.

I'm now completely hooked again on the works of Mr Knopfler, especially the really early Dire Straits recordings.

The horrible part about all this is that on the 18th of March, Mark took a fall from his motor bike & broke six ribs & his collar bone. This news was the trigger that has got me listening again.

There is something special about the old DS records. Mark had a percussive feel to his playing that was sort of country in it's nature but totally rock & roll in its delivery.

When I started playing the guitar back around 94, it was this style I was aiming for & being that his playing is all finger picking rather than with a plectrum, learning the technique is the most valuable thing I have. Guitar teachers would hate it because it's far from being technically correct, but it sounds a treat, so I won't be changing now.

Now after listening to MK's work after getting caught up with other bands for a while, I'm going back to playing pick-less & as a result, I'm falling in love with the guitar again.

It's a good feeling. It's just a pity the inspiration comes from a traffic accident half a world away.

Thanks to those that felt the love & dropped a comment. It's good to know people are still out there!

However, are personal blogs beginning to fall by the wayside? Every time I go blog browsing I find numerous 404 pages where journals have been discarded.

The column of blog links to the right has changed a few times & it now needs some more maintenance.

I only list the journals I read on a regular basis, even though there are many others that I peruse. These just happen to be the better ones (with a slight bias toward those that are Aussie based), which makes it all the more distressing when one of them ups & walks away.

I've wondered what the point of an online jounal is many a time in the archives & I just keep thinking that one day I'll look back & see how I've changed & gotten on with life, no matter how pretentious or stupid I have been.
