In one of those rare moments I decide to perform the Friday Five, there isn't one!! So, I've pulled out the last one from a couple of weeks ago!

1. What vehicle do you drive?
A 1996 Daihatsu Charade - The five door, 1.5 litre model.

2. How long have you had it?
Purchased brand new in early 1997.

3. What is the coolest feature on your vehicle?
The engine is probably the coolest thing! Although small, it's got a whole lot more power than the 1.3 litre version they put in the three door models. There's nothing more fun than having a drag against a fellow Charade owner with all the wings, mags & other after-market hot stuff. My little plain faced fellow leaves them floundering. Hey, it's not the quickest thing out there, but it takes off better than a lot of cars I've driven!

4. What is the most annoying thing about your vehicle?
I had some early worries with my car. In the first year it dropped two fuel injectors, which If you believe the dealer, is incredibly rare. I've been told they were the first & last times they've ever had to replace that part in a car! Thankfully, both were under warranty. Other than those two hiccups, it runs like clockwork!

5. If money were no object, what vehicle would you be driving right now?"
My computer at work has the latest Mini Cooper S as the wallpaper, so there must be some envy in that! They are a great looking little vehicle, but they cost a packet over here. Maybe one day...

Another year of the Aria's are over & no real surprises.

Delta Goodrem scooped a bag full of shiny, pointed awards with seven in total. It's good to see someone so young do so well against some major odds. Darren Hayes performed one of Delta's songs & although his performance was pretty ordinary, it brought the house down.

You know there is a real depth to a music industry when some of the best bands walk away empty handed. Such was the night for my sentimental favourite 'Something for Kate' & the album 'the official fiction'. With four nominations, not a cracker fell their way, reminiscent of a few years ago with 'Echolalia' which had six nominations & still nothing!

It took a while for 'Powderfinger' to break a similar Aria jinx, but scored a couple this time around to match their last album, 'Odyssey Number Five'. Their biggest album 'Internationalist' won more awards for the cover art than the music a few years back.

'The Waifs' won two Aria's to continue their run. Another great small band that struggles to break the big time but never really cares with a huge supportive fan base. If you ever get to see them live, it's well worth the effort!

I had a bit of a nightmare the other night, nothing major but it still generated that slightly disturbed feeling. That feeling which makes you want to intervene & make sure it doesn't actually take place.

The dream is still crystal clear. My sister bolting down the driveway with her fiancé in the passenger seat, jumping from the car & running inside for help. Her eyes were as big as dinner plates because she was unable to close them. The reason was that in one of her clumsy moments, she managed to mistake superglue for eye drops.

Just the thought of such things gives me chills. It woke me up & after a few rational thoughts, knew that one, it hadn't actually occurred & second, my sister would never get the nerve up to use eye drops.

I hadn't thought about it since that morning, however, here is where fate steps in. Over dinner last night she started talking about one of her many 'messed in the head' students. This girl had told her how she once had to be rushed to hospital after... dropping superglue in her eye whilst trying to see whether there was any glue left in the bottle.

This sure raised my attention! Is this a case of coincidence or something so 'out there' I don't understand! I don't generally think along the same lines as my sister, even though we are similar & share star-signs. I've never felt connected to the point where we have shared thoughts.

However, maybe we do! Spooky!!

This is a quick note to the individual, driving a nicely restored Ford Mustang, who used his high-beam in an attempt to get me out of his way on Flagstaff Hill Road last night.

Firstly, of course I'm going to slow down! I'm not trying to piss you off, I just can't see because of your high-beams & I thought it would be safer...... actually, yeah, I was trying to piss you off!

Secondly, did you really think that I wasn't going to use my high-beams when you finally found a way around me?

Some people really are stupid fuckers!!

If you've been to this page before, you'll know I love to turn up an amplifier & wail the day away on the strat. When the amp has a problem with valves, this musical experience is rather buggered.

Blowing a valve is one of those things that happens & while it's frustrating, I can easily get over it. What does drive me friggen nuts is that the solution is simple, in heading out & purchasing new valves, & finding that no-one stocks Fender authorised Groove Tubes!

Again, I can accept that the items are expensive, so stores may not wish to have them sitting on shelves.

What really does me in however, is when one of Adelaide's best known music retailers, refuses to give a stuff about a customer wanting to purchase an item they should be easily able to get their hands on in a day or so.

The business in question is Derringers in Adelaide. My Fender Strat came from the store around eight years ago. Their reputation was fantastic & their prices always competitive.

However, times have changed & I've been to have a look around over the last few years without buying a single item. In fact, I doubt I ever will again, especially after today's demonstration. Their prices are no longer competitive with some items carrying prices above retail. Service is non-existant. The few times I have been interested in a product, they've taken my details & never returned calls.

In trying to purchase valves from Derringers, A conversation between staff had to first be finished, then when I asked about valves I was merely pointed in the direction of a cabinet without any interest in providing assistance. When the sales guy finally produced some valves, he tried to sell me a non-Fender set which would require alterations to the bias of my amp. When I asked about the Fender brand, I was told they didn't have any & this was the best they would do. No offer to order a set. I walked off in the end.

I hope to spread the word by letting Fender Australia know what's going on with this store since if they treat all customers the same, they won't be selling much. I may send a few messages to a few other brands that have their products sold through Derringers.

On the other side of the coin, I applaud Cecere's Music who don't stock Fender equipment but were quite willing to place an order & have the valves delivered. I'm highly impressed.

Further to this little episode, I'm in the market for an acoustic guitar. The model will be a Maton EBG808 & after having a little play with a model in the same range, I was blown away by the sound quality. Compared with other brands with similar types of guitar, nothing comes close. It'll cost me a couple of grand, but it'll be a once off purchase that will last for decades. May I just say, that John Mayer's "Neon" sounds pretty good on it too!

In geek news, I have solidly entered the world of bluetooth. For those unfamiliar, bluetooth is a way that different bit of geeky equipment can communicate over distances without any wires or direct line of sight.

My Palm Tungsten T came with it, which coerced my decision to buy the Sony Ericsson T610.

With bluetooth I can take photo's with the phone & transfer them to the Palm for storage with no cost involved.

I've taken this little set-up further by now owning a Belkin F8T003 dongle for my computer. Now everythng happily talks & transfers without any stress, even hotsyncing of my Palm no longer requires the cradle.

What I should be able to do is take photos with my phone, transfer then to the computer & upload to this site anywhere, anytime. Now I just have to get over the whole issue of looking like a tool when I pull out my mobile to take shots.

Trying to use a phone screen as a view finder takes people back to the days of when you had to hold your phone at weird-arse angles to get a reception signal!

Technology continues to make the user look stupid!

I hate change, I'll admit it. I'm the first to say that 'routine' is my thing. However, I hate getting into a rut, becoming consumed & never looking outside at the bigger picture.

Therefore, change might not be enjoyable but it does become necessary. Hence, when it becomes necessary for someone to move along when you're not ready, it's a sad experience.

One of the original crew that kicked off the Pier Hotel has decided to change jobs, which leaves only around three of us as staff that have been here since day one.

I'm still moving along within the next few months which will deplete the staff at the Pier even further. My destination is now set, ending up at the Radi Hotel, where the journey began back in November 2002. Again, the length of time this position will last is anyone's guess, since the pregnancy which caused the opening (is that a poor choice of words?) will eventually resolve itself & I'll be moved somewhere once more.

Hopefully, someone will be sorry to see me leave as I am to see others leave. I know I'll be missed a whole lot less than the chick that's leaving because no-one makes coffee as good!
